    Jonathan Marcus

    As Chief Legal Counsel, Marcus is responsible for the firm's compliance, enterprise risk management, and legal and market regulation. Prior to joining GalaxyEX, Marcus was a partner at Reed Smith LLP, specializing in derivatives regulation, litigation, and enforcement. He also served as General Counsel of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) from 2013 to 2017, advising the Commission on various legal issues, including the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act and the regulation of digital assets. Marcus has also served as Deputy General Counsel for Litigation at the CFTC and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney General. He has also held senior positions in the Derivatives Group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and in the Appellate and Supreme Court Group at Covington & Burling. Marcus began his career on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, serving under Judge José A. Cabranes. He holds an undergraduate degree from Yale University and a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.
